See no evil, hear no evil. That's the motto of the Arab League monitors who are in Syria to try and get Syria's Bashar al-Assad to cease and desist from murdering Syrians opposed to the regime and who have been protesting against the regime for much of the year. Human rights groups note that another 10 people were murdered by the regime today, despite the presence of the monitors. Clashes erupted

A $440 Million Spat Has Put Future of WTC Museum In Doubt
Posted on 07:25 by Unknown
Leave it to the Port Authority of New York to find yet another way to slow down the reconstruction efforts at Ground Zero. This time, they're claiming that the National September 11 Memorial & Museum Foundation owes them $300 million. The Foundation, whose chairman is none other than Mayor Mike Bloomberg, claims that the Port Authority owes them $140 million. That's a $440 million spread, and one
WTC Memorial Welcomes One Million Visitors
Posted on 05:00 by Unknown
There's a bit of good news about the WTC Memorial. They've welcomed 1 million visitors since it opened September 12, 2011 to the general public.
That's a significant jump in attendance over the figures released in November. On November 17, reports indicated that 500,000 visitors had attended the memorial, and projections indicated that the annual figure could reach 3 million.

Costly To Build; Costly To Maintain; And No Way To Pay For All of It
Posted on 09:10 by Unknown
I agree with much of what Benjamin Kabab writes on transit issues, and I don't disagree with his posting about how Amtrak lacks the operational funding to operate the Moynihan transit center for Penn Station in New York City. Money is in place to build out the Farley Post Office as a transit center to replace the decrepit Penn Station beneath Madison Square Garden, but it doesn't actually expand

Assad's Regime Continues Crackdown Even As Arab League Observers Begin "Observations"
Posted on 06:25 by Unknown
The Arab League observers arrived in Syria a few days ago, but have done nothing to slow the death toll from Bashar al Assad's continuing crackdown against protesters. Assad continues to claim that the death toll is the result of insurgents/terrorists/extremists fighting the regime, but the facts reveal that the overwhelming majority of those killed are civilians - many women and children are

North Korea Conducts Kim Jong-il's Funeral
Posted on 07:30 by Unknown
North Korea is mourning the loss of the despot Kim Jong-il and the nation's propagandists are busy with the hagiography of both Jong-il and his son Kim Jong-un, who now leads the country. Western observers have little to go by on what is really going on in the country and who is holding the strings of power, so the funeral is an opportunity for them to remark upon who is and isn't involved in the
Rick Perry Sues to Get On Virginia Ballot Despite Missing Deadline; Newt Attempting Write-In Campaign
Posted on 06:40 by Unknown
Rick Perry's campaign is a clown circus and this latest episode shows why he doesn't deserve the GOP nomination. He couldn't even be bothered to get on the Virginia ballot. Perry now suing to try and get on the ballot. He claims that the VA election law is too restrictive (even though he's a state's right kind of guy - and Virginia is within its rights to demand that someone trying to get on the

Despite Arab League Observers, Assad's Crackdown Continues
Posted on 12:20 by Unknown
Arab League observers have entered Syria, but that's done nothing to stop the bloodshed. Security forces opened up on protesters in Homs and Hama, the two cities where Bashar al-Assad's regime has been cracking down for months. Security forces assaulted demonstrators in the volatile Syrian cities of Homs and Hama on Tuesday as Arab League monitors visited, witnesses told CNN.

Palestinians Threatening To Abrogate Oslo Accords and Other Arrangements With Israel
Posted on 07:50 by Unknown
The Palestinians, particularly Fatah's Mahmoud Abbas, is once again threatening to abrogate the Oslo Accords and the successor security arragements made with Israel so as to curry favor with Hamas as Fatah and Hamas try to reconcile their longstanding differences. Mohammed Shtayyeh, member of the Fatah Central Committee and one of the Palestinian Authority negotiators with Israel, was quoted

New Jersey Redistricting Leads To Primary Battle Between Rothman and Pascrell
Posted on 18:40 by Unknown
The just approved redistricting of Congressional districts in New Jersey would have pitted Democrat Steve Rothman against Republican Scott Garrett. However, it appears that Rothman will instead seek to run against fellow Democrat Bill Pascrell. U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman (D-9th Dist.) is telling Democrats he plans to challenge Bill Pascrell (D-8th Dist.) in the June primary, according to two
Disavowing Extremists But Accepting Their Support; Paul Continues Campaigning
Posted on 09:20 by Unknown
Ron Paul is emblematic of what's wrong with politicians. He's on the record as espousing extremist views through a series of newsletters written in his name, with his name on the letterhead, and touted by Paul for years on end, but now that he's come in for far more scrutiny in the 2012 campaign season than he did in 2008 when these newsletters came to light, he's disavowed those newsletters and

Another Sign That Romney Will Win GOP Nomination
Posted on 08:30 by Unknown
On the heels of the ongoing exposure of Ron Paul's racist and anti Semitic newsletters and vile connections to white supremacists, we're now seeing just how badly run the campaigns of Mitt Romney's opposition truly is.
Both Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry have both missed the deadline to get on the Virginia ballot. How insanely stupid is that? That's massive levels of fail all rolled up into a ball

Video Surfaces Showing Ron Paul Touting Racist Newsletter He Now Claims He Knew Nothing About
Posted on 08:15 by Unknown
Ron Paul's chances for being anything more than a racist footnote in history have just dropped precipitously as video has surfaced of a Ron Paul advertisement touting the very newsletters he claims he knew nothing about.
A recently surfaced video from 1995 shows the GOP presidential hopeful discussing controversial newsletters that he claimed this week he didn't even read until about 2001.
